Pack Lunch - Absolutely

Not a short film, but a personal favourite sketch. We were lucky to work with the Absolutely team not long after starting Triffic. We started by making the title sequence, then went onto making several sketches.

This was storyboarded, then John Sparkes and Gordon Kennedy acted as we shouted the timed directions, for one continual take. Using a photo-rotoscope method I’d developed at college, the performance was shot on 35mm film, then prints were made of every other frame onto matte paper. Long days in the darkroom, the music on loud. The prints were carefully registered onto acme punched strips, cut out, combined with cel overlays, relief background made with Milliput, re-shot on a 35mm rostrum, telecined, edited on tape. Now you could do the whole thing on a laptop,… probably!
